A Bloomington car dealership is bringing an all-star hockey event to the city on April 18, when retired National Hockey League veterans will join amateur players for a benefit game supporting the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota and North Dakota.

“It’s personal to me as my father passed away from a complication with Alzheimer’s,” said Luther Bloomington Hyundai General Manager Lenny Checheris. “It is a horrible disease that will affect millions in the coming years as the baby boomers age.” The manager said that with no cure in sight for the near future, his hope is to raise not only dollars for the charity, but awareness, as well.

Staff members from multiple Luther Auto dealerships will take to the ice with 1980 Olympic team member and hall of famer Dave Christian, Mike Crowley, Dave Jensen, Brad Maxwell, Craig Norwich, Chris McAlpine, Carl Wetzel (coach), Ben Hankinson, Lance Pitlick, Eric Westrum, Bob Bergloff, Lee Goren and Sean Toomey.

The car dealership is joined by the Minnesota NHL Alumni Association for a fun evening that faces off with player introductions, a “Chuck-A-Puck” event and post-game player meet and greets as well as a post-game party at the Hilton in Bloomington. A silent auction is also planned.

The game runs from 5:15 to 7 p.m., at the Bloomington Ice Garden, 3600 West 98th Street. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students 12 to 17 and free for children under 12, or any child under age 18 with wearing a youth hockey jersey. Military members with a valid I.D. are also admitted free. Tickets for the combined game and post-game party are available for $25.
