Warroad graduate moves on to the New York Islanders organization

Warroad graduate Brock Nelson has signed an entry-level contract with the New York Islanders, the team announced on Tuesday.

Nelson, 20, scored a team-leading 28 goals for the University of North Dakota this past season as a sophomore. He also led the team with 47 points in 42 games. He ranked third in the NCAA in goals this season.

Nelson was a first-round pick in 2010 at No. 30 overall and more than doubled his 21-point total as a freshman in Grand Forks.

Shortly after the signing was announced, Nelson tweeted:

Would like to thank everyone who was a part of a great time here at UND and was not an easy decision but will never forget it. #Sioux
