USA Hockey Magazine is counting down the Top 10 Americans To Watch for this upcoming season -- and this Spring Lake Park native made the cut

Spring Lake Park native and former Minnesota St. standout David Backes earned some national recognition on Thursday.

The St. Louis Blues forward was featured at No. 4 in USA Hockey Magazine's Top 10 Americans To Watch countdown to help preview the upcoming hockey season.

Backes posted a career-high 62 points last season and registered a plus-32 rating, leading all NHL forwards in that category. He also earned his first NHL All-Star selection and was named the Blues' new captain.

Backes tallied 73 points in three seasons with the Minnesota St. Mavericks. He was selected in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by St. Louis. He also won a silver medal with the 2010 U.S. Olympic team.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound forward amassed 75 points (29 goals, 46 assists) as a senior for Spring Lake Park High School in 2002. He was a Mr. Hockey finalist.
